If you're new to yoga or just feeling a little rusty, know that you're stepping into something special. At Elliott Yoga Studio, we love teaching beginners because we believe everyone’s yoga journey is unique and exciting. In today’s busy world, there’s immense power in returning to the basics.
Many first-time yogis often wonder, “Will I be able to do this?” “What if I’m not flexible enough?” or “Am I going to be the only one who has no clue what I’m doing?” Rest assured, these feelings are completely normal. Our approach is designed to help you feel at home as you start this journey.
A Strong Foundation First
We believe yoga should be easy to follow, supportive and confidence-boosting.It’s not about Insta-worthy postures or how far you can fold – it’s about learning to move in a way that feels good for you.
Our beginner-friendly classes focus on building solid foundations, because when you understand the basics and feel comfortable in your body, you can move through life – and your yoga practice – with more ease and strength.
Think of it like this: life is full of ups and downs, and yoga becomes the steady ground beneath you. When things get tough, your mat is a place to return to, root down, restore your energy and rise again.
Every session is an opportunity to listen to how your body is feeling, making it a therapeutic practice that nurtures you. The main mission is to focus on progress, not perfection. Gradual exposure to new poses builds not just your confidence, but also a deeper relationship with your body, enabling you to appreciate your own progress.
What You Can Expect as a Beginner
Many of our current students who come to our studio are here because someone – a GP, physio, psychologist, or a friend – has gently nudged them to try yoga. And not because they want to master a headstand, but because they want to feel better.
Better in their body.
Calmer in their mind.
More able to handle the ups and downs of everyday life.
If that sounds like you, then you're in the right place.
We know it can feel daunting to walk into a class for the first time. That’s why we’ve designed our sessions to be as welcoming, supportive and clear as possible.
Here’s what you can expect:
✔️ Clear, gentle instruction
We don’t use confusing yoga lingo or expect you to know anything in advance. We guide you step by step with kind, down-to-earth teaching.
✔️ Plenty of options and modifications
Every body is different – and every day is different, too! You’ll be offered choices to help the movements feel beneficial and doable for you, not some ideal version of you.
✔️ A welcoming, friendly space
You’ll never be made to feel behind or out of place. Questions are always encouraged, and you’ll be supported from the moment you walk in.
✔️ A focus on movement, mindset, and meditation
We don’t just stretch – we breathe, we rest, and we reconnect with what really matters. Yoga is a tool to help you feel steady and strong, even when life is a bit wobbly.
✔️ Real yoga for real life
No pretzel shapes, no pressure to perform. Just simple, feel-good practices designed to ease tension, lift your mood and support your overall wellbeing.
Creating a Routine That Works for You
Establishing a regular yoga practice is one of the best things you can do for your growth – especially when you’re just starting out. We know life’s busy (and sometimes a bit unpredictable), so we offer a variety of class times – from morning movers to evening wind-downs – to help you find a rhythm that suits your lifestyle.
But here’s the thing: creating a yoga routine isn’t just about physical flexibility or ticking off a fitness goal.
It’s about carving out space in your week where you can unplug, breathe deeper, and feel more you.
Many beginners tell us that their yoga class quickly becomes their peaceful escape – a pause button in the middle of life’s chaos. In fact, surveys show that around 60% of new students report feeling less anxious after just one month of regular practice.
That’s the power of showing up – even just once a week.
It’s not about being perfect or progressing quickly. It’s about giving yourself the space to settle, reset, and come back to yourself again and again.
You're Not Alone – The Power of Community
Yoga might be a personal practice, but it doesn’t have to be a lonely one.
At Elliott Yoga Studio, we truly believe that having a sense of community can make your yoga journey feel more supported, connected, and, dare we say, a bit more fun too!
We actively nurture connection among our students, because sharing your experiences – especially as a beginner – can provide the kind of reassurance and encouragement you didn’t know you needed.(Yes, everyone else feels wobbly in balance poses sometimes too!)
Whether it’s a friendly chat before class, a laugh over “tight hamstrings club,” or a shared “ahhh” in Savasana – these little moments can make all the difference.
Our online groups help you stay connected beyond the studio
rooted in connection not perfection:
Elliott Off the Mat Chat – a welcoming online space where our members share questions, wins, tips, and encouragement (plus the odd dog photo or cuppa check-in!)
Flourish & Thrive – Wellness for Women – our online wellness community focused on movement, meditation, mindset and natural wellbeing. Especially supportive for women navigating stress, hormone shifts or simply wanting more ease in their life.

These groups are here for those times when you need a little nudge, a bit of advice, or just a reminder that you’re not the only one trying to balance yoga with work, family, hormones and a never-ending to do list.
