The Power of Journaling with Purpose: How to prioritise self-care.

In the endless to-dos of our daily lives, it's easy to get swept away by the chaos and lose sight of our goals and aspirations. Finding ways to balance out our day with moments of peace, focus and clarity is extremely important for our well-being. one way that has always helped me and thousands of other people on the planet is with the simple act of journaling.


Journaling with purpose provides quality time to set clear goals, boost productivity, and provide better focus for our dreams and visions.



WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE FOR ME:

Every morning the first thing I do after waking up is go downstairs to make a little coffee and sit down with my journal. This time is very special and important to me. It's MY time before I start the day. Before I switch on to family, home life and daily tasks such as answering emails, teaching classes and creating content. My 2024 goal was to get up at least 1hr before my toddler. And as I write this blog post we are only a couple of months into 2024 and It feels GREAT carving out that 1hr of me time. I have prioritised me and my thoughts and feelings before I begin the day.

  • Reflect on Good Times and moments of joy

At the end of every day, week and month it's important to begin by acknowledging the positive moments that have brought joy into your life. Journaling about these good times not only brings a smile to your face but also serves as a reminder of the things that truly matter. By creating a habit of reflecting on the good times, we cultivate gratitude and positivity in our lives. Take a moment to highlight the experiences that bring you joy and fulfillment, and consider how you can invite more of these moments into your life. Take comfort on the small wins that you achieve.


Self-care Tip - If you struggle to think about any good times then pull out your mobile phone and look back on your photo history. I am sure you have captured many beautiful moments in your life.


  • Acknowledge challenges and embrace Growth

Life is full of challenges, both big and small, but it's how we navigate them that defines our journey. Use your journal as a space to acknowledge the challenges you've overcome and the lessons you've learned along the way. Celebrate your resilience and embrace the opportunities for growth. Sometimes life has a way to slow us down but that is okay. We journal on this set back and see it. Daily mantra: Each day is a new day with fresh energy and a fresh perspective.


Keep in mind that small actions make big change. A small seed must first surround itself within a nourishing environment, have patience and take each day to build strength until its ready to burst into life and fully flourish.


  • Set Intentions: Clarifying Your WHY

When we desire to change something about our life or ourselves, it's essential to clarify your why – the underlying motivation that fuels your actions. Take the time to reflect on why you want to make changes in your life, whether it's to achieve a specific goal, improve your well-being, or pursue your passions. Understanding your why will provide motivation for your journey ahead.


Self-care Tip - build a vision board around your WHY. This is a fun, creative way to spend time focusing on what you want in your life. It will be a reminder of what you are striving towards and help keep you motivated.


  • Break it Down: SMART Goals and Manageable Steps

Once you've identified what you wanting in your life, it's time to break down your goals into actionable steps. Utilise the SMART criteria – Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound – to create clear and manageable objectives. By breaking your goals into smaller steps, you'll empower yourself to make progress consistently and sustainably.
